Media Centre / Lifeplayers for Massai Schools
With your help Lifeline Energy will provide 500 Lifeplayers MP3 to hardship schools in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. Our aim is to provide two Lifeplayers per primary school in Narok North District, which will be pre-loaded with important educational content which can be listened to and repeated on demand.

Located in the Maasai heartland, these schools are some of the lowest performing in Kenya. Largely under-resourced, most have large class sizes and lack electricity. Many schools are located in remote areas, making it difficult to recruit qualified teachers. Given the distance from home to school, children often run to class. They're keen to learn, yet getting a quality education is difficult.
Our Lifeplayer’s will be loaded with a range of educational programs for teachers and learners alike, such as English instruction (produced by the British Council), primary school lessons, and practical programs on health, farming and livestock. This is both an effective and cost efficient way to enhance knowledge for tens of thousands of students and their teachers.
In talking with headmasters at some of the schools, Lifeline Energy has learned that everyone wants to learn English, however, few teachers can speak it. The audio programming will dramatically improve basic English literacy and correct pronunciation. With the media player feature, lessons can be played again and again until everyone understands. The Lifeplayer also records so children can hear their own voices and improve pronounciation.
Absenteeism is high on market days when children often have to look after livestock while their mothers walk long distances themselves to market. During the rainy season, it may be impossible to reach school at all. With the Lifeplayer, children can make up the lessons they’ve missed when they have the time to do so.
Also, when teachers know they’re going to miss class, they can record the lesson in advance. Given that the Lifeplayer has a solar and wind-up mechanism the lack of electricity doesn’t matter.
Mr. Munia, the headmaster of Two Trees School in the Narok North District, said that the Lifeplayer will help turn his school into a ‘top performer’.
Your donation of $100 will provide a fully-loaded Lifeplayer to a Maasai school in Kenya. Each Lifeplayer is estimated to directly benefit between 120 and 200 children and their teachers, making your donation a cost-effective investment in children's education.
