Having recently returned from volunteering in western Kenya (rural area west of Kisumu), and becoming friends with a family whose roots are in that area but live in the Starehe slum, made this story harder to read. I have been to Starehe, and the conditions are appalling, as is the government’s failure to provide basic infrastructure (i.e. toilets).

On a different note, digging through your website, I am wonderfully surprised to see that Lifeline is actually now Freeplay. I tried in vain last summer to hunt down Freeplay radios in Vancouver, Canada – unbiased storekeepers said how great they were – to give as gifts to organizations in Kenya. Unbiased because the storekeepers couldn’t source the product anymore, and unfortunately nor could I before departing. Given the high quality of the product, consider whether http://www.MEC.Ca would stock your product as MEC has a very progressive policy and supports initiatives.
