SDGs and Our Focus Areas
Our focus areas and how they support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
In 2015, the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) to end extreme poverty by 2030 and improve livelihoods around the world. Lifeline Energy contributes to many of these SDGs by providing access to education and information for the most vulnerable. We do this through our solar and wind-up MP3 players and radios. Read on to see if our Lifeplayers could help you to achieve your SDGS, too.
Agriculture beats at the heart of African economies, with roughly 70% of Africans earning their living through subsistence farming. Enhancing productivity is vital to increasing food security. Farmers need accurate and trusted information to learn how to increase crop yields and quality, adopt conservation farming practices, the safe use of pesticides and about animal husbandry. With larger harvests, farmers have a chance to live with Zero Hunger. Lifeplayers make it possible for farming content to be made available in local languages and shared even in the remotest areas.
HIV/AIDS, malaria, TB, high rates of maternal and infant mortality, and stunting are critical health issues facing sub-Saharan Africa. Debilitating diseases, many preventable, erode productivity and well-being. Africa is home to an estimated 50 million orphans, more than a third of these due to AIDS. Reliable, credible information is paramount in reducing disease and promoting nutrition and Good Health and Well-Being for all ages. This information can be pre-recorded and played over and over, even in off-grid areas, thanks to our solar and wind-up Lifeplayers.
Education is central to a nation’s future. Lack of resources, classrooms, trained teachers, books and school supplies all contribute to education challenges in Africa. On a continent where only half of all adults are literate, Africa’s future economic and social development relies on educating the next generation. But how can 40 million out-of-school children receive a high-quality basic education? Our solution is audio learning via radio or MP3 players. (Teachers can pre-record lessons on Lifeplayers to play-back later). Students who attend radio school have a better chance of completing secondary school. They have more confidence, as well as higher levels of communication, auditory processing, and motor skills. Lifeline Energy provides innovative and cost-effective technology, so everyone has the chance for Quality Education.
