The 20th Anniversary 2023 Tom Hanks Day (THD) was yet again a raging success with Tom’s hit 1988 movie, BIG, as the theme. Lincoln Hall was packed with Tom supporters and some who even came from as far afield as California, Oregon and Florida. And, of course, Kristine Pearson, who arrived all the way from South Africa to be there.
Never a dull moment, there was a Tom trivia contest; a costume contest with people dressing up as characters from Tom’s movies; a “BIG” keyboard on which to dance and the famous raffle. There was even ‘Zoltar’ from BIG who read out the winning numbers from the raffle tickets. Each year Tom’s office sends merchandise signed by Tom including movies, DVD’s, props, posters and a typewriter. Tom’s love of typewriters is well-known.
At least 10 times during the celebration there was the ‘Tom Hanks’ chant.
And as every year, the celebration raises funds for Lifeline Energy. We are extremely grateful for what THD has raised for our work in Africa. This year we’re continuing to provide Fenix solar and wind-up radio-lights to school children in rural Kenya.
